Easy Frozen Margarita Recipe

Every Friday night I love to go to my local Tex-Mex restaurant and enjoy some great food and a jumbo frozen margarita to end my work week. Margaritas are definitely one of my (and my wife’s) go to drinks. They are so refreshing and can be made in a variety of different ways. While you can go for high-end margaritas using Grand Mariner and an expensive bottle of tequila, I like to go budget friendly.

After researching many tequilas, I found that you don’t need an expensive bottle for making margaritas – and good ones at that. I typically stick with $12-$15 for a 1 liter bottle (Of course you can spring for the larger size and save a little money too). Some brands I like are Messicano Alteño and Tequila Destilador. I was shopping in a local liquor store recently and struck up a conversation with one of the employees there. She worked at a nearby Tex-Mex restaurant as her second job. She said on many occasions when they would run low on tequila they would come and pick up Messicano Alteño. I decided to give it a try and it’s been one of my favorites every since. These bottles run about $13 at that store and definitely fit within my cheap budget!

Now for the other ingredients. You can stick with a bottle of Triple Sec (Like Dekuyper – around $4-$5). I’ve tried the more expensive ones, but for frozen margaritas I don’t notice much of a difference. One thing you can’t skimp on though are the fresh limes… and why would you? They make such a great taste difference are super cheap – typically around a dollar for a dozen. Finally I pick up a good large orange and a can of frozen limeade or frozen margarita mix (You can always grab store brand or spring for Bacardi mixers).

So altogether, after picking up your liquor and other ingredients you should have spent around $20 (All-in-all way cheaper than my Friday margaritas with my wife and it makes tons of margaritas).  Once home, these take less than 5 minutes to make. Pop your favorite movie in, plop down on the couch, and enjoy. I usually make a full batch for 5-8 margaritas and then just freeze the rest to reuse for the next time. It makes it super convenient to pull it out of the freezer, blend it, and drink. Recipe for margarita:

Servings 5-8

INGREDIENTS:

12 OZ CAN OF FROZEN LIMEADE (MINUTE MAID OR STORE BRAND)


8 OZ OF TEQUILA (SILVER OR GOLD)


3 OZ TRIPLE SEC (DEKUYPER OR YOUR FAVORITE BRAND)


3 OZ FRESH LIME JUICE


1 LARGE ORANGE (FRESH SQUEEZED)


DIRECTIONS:

  1. Add can of frozen limeade to your blender
  2. Add in the tequila and triple sec
  3. Add in the lime juice
  4. Add in the fresh squeezed orange juice
  5. Fill the blender to the top with ice
  6. Blend on low speed until you can’t hear any of the ice breaking anymore
  7. Pour into your favorite glass, garnish with a lime wedge, and enjoy!

Side Note: You can add in a small Dos Equis or Corona and make a great Beer-Rita.
